Efforts of SAIC to implement the new Trademark Law

China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) will take measures in five aspects to pave the way for the implementation of the newly amended Trademark Law which will take effect on May 1, 2014, said the authority's commissioner Zhang Mao on 17 September.

SAIC will attach great importance to the organization of training courses, clarification of relevant and supportive regulations, improvement of examination capability, enhancement of supervision and enforcement and strengthening capacity-building of leading groups, known as the five priorities, said Zhang during his speech at a teleconference in Beijing.

According to him, the new law made significant changes to the current trademark registration and management system. By offering applicants easier access for registration, providing more efficient tools to fight against unfair competition and to protect the exclusive rights of registered trademarks, the new amendments are expected to meet the requirements of China's social and economic development.

"Now we have only less than eight months to get prepared for the new Trademark Law," said Zhang, adding that his organization will take prompt action to address the five priorities and smooth the way for the new law.
